Portrait
I despise taking portraits of people. They never seem to come out right for me. Having practiced a bit on it, I'd like to see how far I've come. What do you think of this one?

Nice
You can't really see her eyes. Sometimes that's not a problem, but she seems to be looking right into the lens, so it's definitely distracting. The lighting could have been a little better. Perhaps some post-processing could bring it up a couple notches? The big empty space at the top of the frame is a little distracting. The brick is a nice accent, but the plain wall hurts the overall shot. Maybe a tighter crop will fix it, but next time try to compose it a little tighter or add some more elements into the shot to give it some symetry. But overall I really like it. I'm not great at portraits at all, so I can appreciate how difficult this shot must have been to take. Great job!!

Re: Portrait
Well all the lines are right. Her fingers though-- it's an all or none rule. Her head tilt- It's in the right direction , but I think it may have needed a little adjustment, she dosn't look comfortable in that position. But very feminin. Lighting can always be an issue I think, depends what your going for. I think the glare on her glasses is acceptable, but a polorized lens always helps, if your useing a tripod indoors). Any note I would let you do me. Your deffinately on the right track, who knows how those professionals get that perfect shot in 2.3 seconds anyway. ;) I didn't even notice the fingers. Guess I'll have to keep that in mind. Believe it or not, that was her natural pose! I didn't set her up that way, I just happened to like the way she was sitting. The fussing started when I started focusing, of course. :-) Lighting was actually very easy in this case. She had a lot of indirect light coming in from a window that was off to my right. It provided a very good "warm" feeling, which is what I was going for. Sadly, I don't own any filters just yet since I'm saving up for a DSLR. A naughty secret on this one: It was shot with my camera's "General" setting, no tripod and only took me a few seconds to compose and shoot. Maybe next time I'll take a few seconds more to compose, but she was a bride's maid and I couldn't hold her up for long. Thanks for the input so far!
